Karim Benzema’s attorney has put an end to rumors over his future.
Following rumors of his claimed discontent in the Middle East and of a falling out with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, a number of clubs have been linked to the veteran striker, including Arsenal and Chelsea.
Hugues Vigier, Benzema’s attorney, has downplayed the player’s on-field difficulties, which have left his team trailing in the championship race, as a sign that he may go, but he did make a suggestion that Lyon, his previous team, might be a possibility should he decide to leave.
He stated to the French television station RMC: “People instantly say that your career is over when you are not performing up to your usual level and your results are a little worse at a given time.
“I have to say that I would be quite happy to see him come back to play in Lyon, I would like it… but he hasn’t told me that yet!”
His delayed arrival to Al-Ittihad following a vacation in Mauritius fueled rumors of unhappiness inside the Benzema camp.
It was quickly made clear, though, that Cyclone Belal was to blame for his inability to depart the well-liked vacation spot by air.
“He has had ups and downs in his career; maybe this is a less prosperous time for him, and he has also sustained injuries,” Vigier continued.
“The cyclone prevented him from going back to Saudi Arabia after he had departed for a few days. After that, he went back to Saudi Arabia.
We witnessed his ascent from the ashes. Remember that he didn’t play much when he first joined Real Madrid before becoming into one of the team’s most important players? And like many athletes, he experiences both good and bad times.”
