One of the best proof-of-stake blockchains, Solana, has integrated Filecoin, a decentralized file-saving blockchain system, so that third-party programs can access its block history. By utilizing a decentralized solution like Filecoin, Solana will be able to achieve better redundancy and scalability for a portion of its data collection, according to Filecoin.
Filecoin Integration by Solana Will Boost Data Accessibility
To raise the degree of data availability on its blockchain, the Solana blockchain is incorporating the services of Filecoin, a 2020-launched file-saving blockchain system protocol. Solana’s integration involves utilizing Filecoin’s capabilities to save its block history, according to a post by Filecoin on X.
For third-party apps that use this data, such as infrastructure providers, explorers, indexers, and anyone requiring historical access, this will improve the discoverability and retrieval of this data. “A significant move away from centralized storage solutions and a remarkable step towards enhancing the reliability and scalability of the Solana blockchain,” according to Filecoin, is what this development represents.
In addition, it stated that this will improve data security, scalability, and redundancy while “keeping true to its decentralized ethos.”
Triton One, a Solana Remote Procedure Call (RPC) provider, and Dcent, a Web3 file storage provider, collaborated to make the connection possible. According to Triton One, this work is necessary to use a decentralized platform and make Solana accessible to all.
Filecoin is important to the Old Faithful project, which aims to shift Solana’s emphasis from putting its historical archive in decentralized media to using Bigtable, a proprietary and centralized cloud-based database service. As part of Project Yellowstone, an effort to reimagine Solana’s RPC stack, Old Faithful is also included
Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko commended this new feature. Yakovenko said:
I can’t wait for this to launch. We are really grateful to Filecoin for creating such a fantastic decentralized archiving layer. And to Triton One, who worked so hard to get this sent!
